Director of Career Services
The Director of Career Services serves as an integral part of the Career Services Office (CSO) under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Career Services. The Director will partner with the Associate Dean to develop and implement strategic initiatives related to career advising, employer outreach, programming services for law students and alumni, and internal relations for the CSO Team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Associate Dean to develop and implement strategies for career advising, outreach, and programming.
- Meet with and advise/coach law students and alumni individually through all stages of career exploration, job search, interview preparation, and professional development.
- Review and provide feedback on student and alumni application materials.
- Develop and lead programs and skills development workshops for students.
- Organize internal office logistics for the CSO team, including managing office work schedule, time off requests, and timecard management.
- Facilitate team meetings and serve as the first point of contact for CSO team questions or concerns.
- Participate in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new CSO team members.
- Coordinate and participate in marketing and promotion of CSO programs and services to students, alumni, and employers.
- Create and implement processes to ensure students receive the highest level of service in interactions with CSO.
- Contribute to overall office goals and maintain regular communication with the Associate Dean.
- Collaborate with other campus departments as needed for special projects.
- Participate in professional associations including NALP and LAALRA.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- General knowledge about and strong interest to continue learning about the legal employment market and the legal community, including judicial clerkships and other positions with the courts, and career practices and opportunities within the local, national, and global legal community
- Strong interest in counseling and guiding law students with respect to their professional development
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, and knowledge of legal resume and cover letter format
- Strong interpersonal, communication, active listening, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
- Familiarity with graduate employment data collection and reporting
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Highest ethical and professional standards and proven ability to exercise exemplary judgment when dealing with sensitive information and difficult situations
- Strong technology abilities, with a high degree of comfort using Microsoft Office
- Enthusiasm for working with law students, lawyers, and the legal community
Minimum Job Requirements
- JD Degree Required
- A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in legal practice, and/or counseling experience with law students
Pay: $105,000
